Aaron Livingston is a highly respected gastroenterologist practicing in a large Boston hospital. His dream for his own GI endoscopy center is suddenly destroyed after his political views are bought to the attention of his financial backer by a jealous colleague. When Aaron learns of this, he enlists the help of a friend and devises an elaborate and risky scheme to exact revenge. Aaron's actions trigger a cascade of emotionally staggering events involving his reluctant accomplice, alienated son and wife, a ten year old girl, and several other key people. These experiences dramatically shape his fragile psychological state as he desperately searches for some measure of meaning and value in his life. The Struggle probes deeply into the psyche of an emotionally traumatized man, exposing the harrowing personal and social consequences of obsession, anger, grief, vengeance, and guilt, but ultimately also reveals the enduring power of the human spirit to find forgiveness and redemption in the face of tragic circumstances.
